After putting on the armor on the Destiny, I thought I'd showcase its weapons before I do the final assembly.
The MG Destiny comes with its trademark weapons: the beam rifle, foldable (or should I say sliding?) shield, the anti-ship sword, the beam launcher, and 2 combo beam boomerangs/sabers. If you add in the mini-cannons on its palms, the Destiny Gundam is one of the more heavily-armed Gundams in the Cosmic Era (Seed) universe.
It may be harder to see, but in the pic above, the beam launcher has a gimmick where when you twist the handle for the Destiny to hold it, the gun sight will move up and some parts move down. Unfortunately, a piece inside broke, and that gimmick no longer works for me :(
Here's a pic of the sword, launcher and shield in its storage modes.
Destiny's wings. And the final and most annoying piece to break: the joint on the wings that make it fold up. The joint is held by a tiny protrusion on the smaller parts where the larger wings will use to fold in. Since the clear plastic makes it more brittle than usual, I really shouldn't have been surprised that it broke off while I was trying it out.
I thought about how to fix this a long while. In the end, I went the easy route and just glued the wings in place, since I'll most probably pose the Destiny with wings open anyway.
Again, another gimmick that was wasted :(
The stand. Annoyingly, Bandai decided to keep with the theme and used clear plastic as well, making it another piece that can possibly break. So I was very careful in setting it up as I know very well that Destiny has a difficult time standing on its own due to the wings on its back.
You hang the backpack on it, which means no more holes on the Gundam, unlike Freedom.
Also, the top piece that holds the backpack can swivel and twist around, helping you make dynamic poses with it.
Hmm... I forgot to take pics of the shield and the open hands. I'll take those in future posts about this item.
